Benefits of Finishing Your Basement
Basements are often neglected spaces within one's home. They are looked upon as places for storage, areas for laundry, and/or just unused space. Yet, if you could finish your basement and transform it, you would have so much more than just a basement.
Guest Bedroom
A lot of homeowners choose to finish a basement to create a guest bedroom. When done well, this guest bedroom is comfortable, does not require any air conditioning because it is below ground level, and ends up looking like a very inviting bedroom. If your home lacks the extra space to have family or friends stay with you, maybe this is a good idea. It also is an excellent selling point if you decide to sell your home.
Extra Living Space
Who doesn't need extra living space? There never seems to be enough room for people all living under the same roof. Finishing a basement transforms this area of your home into a den, an extra living room, an entertainment room with games, pool table, etc., or anything else you really need it to be. The extra living space is also listed on a real estate listing to encourage buyers who are looking for finished basements and extra square footage where they can find it.
Peace and Quiet or a Rumpus Room
A finished basement can equal one of two things. It can be a place of quiet and solace for family members to get away from noise upstairs, or it can be a "rumpus room" where you send the kids to scream and shout and play while the quiet remains upstairs. Either way, it helps reduce stress to the adults in the house and gives kids the ability to be kids. Because the walls are made of concrete in your basement, and because you can add insulated, sound-proof walls, you can further reduce noise and stress by finishing the entire sub-level of your home.
